Bromley kick-started 2023 with a 0-0 draw against Southend United at Hayes Lane.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors through a counter attack, where the ball fell to Jack Bridge whose shot was blocked inside Bromley’s penalty area.

Southend kept attacking and nearly took the lead in spectacular style. In the ninth minute, Harry Taylor’s shot from distance hit the outside of the post.

In a cagey game of few chances, Bromley’s best opportunity came half way throughout the first half. After some great trickery by Louis Dennis, the midfielder passed the ball to Corey Whitely who shot just wide.

In the second half, Callum Powell’s cross found Bridge at the back post, the midfielder then set up Cav Miley who shot over the bar.

Just like the first half, there were far and few chances in the second. Powell was once again causing the Bromley back-line issues and in the 68th minute, he unleashed a shot straight at Reice Charles-Cook. Seconds later, Bromley had a golden chance to take the lead. Harry Forster’s brilliant cross found Jude Arthurs unmarked in the penalty area, with the latter’s terrific header forcing a brilliant fingertip save by Blondy Nna Noukeu.

In the 76th minute, Forster went on a mesmerising run from his own half and placed his effort just over the bar. A minute later, Forster went off and on came Ben Krauhaus for his home senior debut for the Ravens.

As the game was coming to an end, Miley unleashed a 20 yard effort which bounced awkwardly in front of Charles-Cook, forcing Bromley’s keeper to get a good hand on the effort.
