Bromley finished 2023/24 in third place following a 2-1 defeat at Gateshead on Saturday, achieving their highest ever league finish and points tally. Our play-off semi-final will take place on Sunday 28th April at Hayes Lane against the winners of Altrincham and Halifax Town.

It took just 11 minutes for a much-changed Bromley side to take the lead when Kamarl Grant did really well to find Myles Weston on the right flank. The latter pinged a cross into the box for Olufela Olomola to tuck home from close range.

It proved to be a quiet first period on the chances front, but Gateshead almost found an equaliser when Kain Adom cut inside from the left before his attempt to bend an effort into the top corner flew high of the crossbar.

Just before the break and the Ravens were hunting for their second when Olomola played a fantastic through-ball to Will Davies who couldn’t quite slide it into the bottom right corner.

Seconds after the restart, Kieron Evans dipped over an effort from just outside the area before the Gateshead number 12 had another opportunity to write his name on the scoresheet. However, this time, his strike whistled just wide.

Lewis Thomas was called into action on 54 minutes to deny Joe Grayson before a cross almost found the back of the net, but the Bromley ‘keeper did well to tip it over.

Jude Arthurs came on and made an instant impact when he was bundled down in the box leading to the referee pointing to the spot. Louis Dennis stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick before seeing his effort saved by James Montgomery.

The miss proved costly as Greg Olley netted an equaliser before the hosts continued to press until Louis Storey won the game for Gateshead on 87 minutes.

The Score at Barnet meant the result didn’t matter to Bromley who maintained their third place spot.
