3 - 2
Gander Green Lane, Sat 23rd Jul @ 3:00 pm
Sutton United beat Bromley 3-2 in an all London pre-season friendly at Gander Green Lane.
In the second minute of the game, the ball fell to Billy Bingham who, from 25 yards out, saw his effort go just wide of the post.
Bromley kept applying pressure to Sutton’s back-line, this time with Michael Cheek, from an acute angle, saw his effort saved by Jack Rose. Cheek’s chance led to Bromley’s breakthrough shortly after. An excellent corner from Reece Hannam saw Omar Sowunmi brilliantly rise to head the ball into the box before Callum Reynolds finished from close range. It was the defender’s first goal for Bromley.
As the game passed the 20 minute mark, the Ravens should have got their second goal of the game. Corey Whitely sent a good through-ball to Cheek, who beat the offside trap and only had Sutton’s keeper to beat. Cheek placed his effort wide, despite the great build up play.
Whitely was in the thick of the action once again. From 30 yards, he forced Rose to palm away his free-kick. As the half was coming to an end, Jude Arthur’s through ball found Whitley who raced through on goal and shot tamely at Rose as he tried to outmuscle his marker. Overall, a good half for Bromley.
In the second half, the Ravens conceded in the opening minutes. Following a corner by Rob Milsom, Alistair Smith, unmarked, placed a looping effort over Trialist A into the net. The Sutton player minutes later nearly gave the hosts the lead, placing his 20 yard effort just wide.
Sutton took the lead in the latter stages of the second half. Enzo Boldewijn took on defenders down the wing before pulling the ball back for Will Randall who smashed his first time effort into the corner from the penalty area. In the 82nd minute, Sutton got their third goal via Milsom from a penalty. The Ravens restored some pride minutes later from Ben Krauhaus. Following a Jude Arthurs cross, Rose palmed away the delivery straight into the path of Krauhaus where the ball deflected into the back of the net.
