100 up for Byron

Byron Webster signed for Bromley at the commencement of the delayed 2020/21 season from Football League side, Carlisle United, where he had spent just the one season.

He started his career coming through the youth ranks to earn his first professional contract with York City in 2004, and spent three years at Bootham Crescent before moving on loan to Harrogate Town and Whitby Town. In August 2007 he moved abroad by signing for FC Banik of the Czech Republic, where he was to remain for two seasons, but returned to Yorkshire in 2009 when he put pen to paper at Doncaster Rovers.

Whilst there he had loan spells at Hereford United and Northampton Town, which led to his next port of call when he signed for Yeovil Town – then in the Football League – and was in the Somerset team that earned promotion to the Championship in 2013.

Near-neighbours, Millwall, secured his services in June 2014 and he remained at the Den for five years, clocking up 138 appearances and finding the net eight times. Before departing to Scunthorpe United in January 2019. He remained with the Irons for the remainder of that season before joining Carlisle United in the Summer.

After making a total of 423 appearances for his previous Clubs, Byron made his debut for Bromley in the home National League fixture against Torquay United on 18 October 2020, where he was the goal scorer in the 1-2 defeat.

He had signed for Bromley in the September and had played in the now devoid fixture against Dover Athletic, which was deleted from the records due to their Covid problems.

Since arriving at Hayes Lane, Byron has cemented his position in the Bromley defence, and took over as Captain when Jack Holland left.  He played a vital part in Bromley’s play off situation in his first season here, and led his side to the pinnacle of Non-League Football last season on that historical day in May by winning the FA Trophy for the first time in Bromley’s history.

Byron made his 100th First Team appearance for Bromley in last Saturday’s rearranged National League fixture at home to Yeovil Town, and has netted on 17 occasions since arriving at Hayes Lane.
