Bromley Football Club are delighted to announce that Dean Davenport has been appointed as Women’s First Team Manager, as of January 2024.
Davenport managed Crystal Palace Women for 11 years, where he oversaw four promotions, leading the team to The Barclays Women’s Championship in 2018. There, he led the Eagles to their highest ever position in the league of joint 3rd in 2022.
Davenport will be joined by James Marrs, who will take up the position of Head Coach, bringing his vast experience, having also coached Tier Two teams including, Brighton & Hove Albion Women, Charlton Athletic Women and Crystal Palace Women, where he worked alongside Davenport for three seasons.
Completing the new coaching team is Mick Strain, who joins as Goalkeeper Coach. Strain has coached at Charlton Athletic Women, London City Lionesses and Crystal Palace Women, bringing over ten years specialised experience in female goalkeeper coaching.
Overseeing these new appointments and off-field matters, Andrea Ellis has been named Head of Women and Girls, building on her excellent work within our Community since joining the Club in February 2022.
Owner and Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves commented; “In my time as Chairman, I have always made it clear that I wish for our Women’s team and matchdays to be on par with the men’s. As we look to develop and professionalise the Women’s team further, these appointments are a clear step in that direction. It’s an exciting time for the team, and I look forward to seeing their continued progress.”
Upon his arrival at Hayes Lane, Davenport added; “After speaking with the Club’s Chairman and working closely with CEO Mark Hammond and Head of Women and Girls Andrea Ellis, I was impressed with the vision they have for the progress of the Women’s team. It’s an exciting opportunity and a great time to part of this football club and its journey.”
Head of Women and Girls Andrea Ellis added; “It is clear to see the calibre that both Dean and James will bring to the Women’s team. They successfully took a team from Tier 6 to The Championship, a similar journey that we are aiming Bromley FC Women to embark on. This appointment is another example of the club’s vision to invest in the Women’s game”.

The news comes following the departures of long-standing trio Steve Payne, Dave Pointing and Ian Robertson. The Club would like to extend its thanks to Steve, Dave and Ian for their tireless contributions over the years.
