Bromley Whites 5-1 Cray Wanderers

  • Academy

Bromley Whites got off to a flying start in their first game of the season at home to Cray Wanderers, winning 5-1.

A very young Bromley side made up predominantly of 16 year olds dominated the game from the very start. Bromley went 1-0 up within 10 minutes after a fantastic first time pass from Fidan Fejzi split the Cray defence, Trey Small was alert and latched on to the through ball to chip his finish past the onrushing Cray goalkeeper. 1-0 Bromley.

Bromley continued to keep the ball with some neat one and two touch passing in the middle of the park and were very rarely threatened, however on 32 minutes a hopeful cross from wide right was inadvertently headed in to his own net by Lemar Brooks-Phillips after a lack of communication with the goalkeeper Roland Higyed, making the score 1-1. The Whites didn’t let the own goal affect them though and remained calm in possession, and on 37 minutes a great kick from goalkeeper Roland found Trey Small through the middle of the pitch after the Cray defenders failed to deal with it, and once again Trey kept his composure and slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner for his 2nd goal of the game. 2-1 Bromley.

After half time Cray came out with a different formation, playing 2 up front, and it took around 10 minutes for Bromley to adjust, but on 56 minutes Jordan Akpangi’s pass found Trey Small, who beat his man and struck a thunderous shot with his left foot that the keeper could only parry in to the net, great strike from Trey and earns him his hat trick! 3-1 Bromley.

As Bromley’s midfield continued to dominate, not only in possession but in terms of breaking up play and screening the defence, one of the star players on the day, Jordan Akpangi scored arguably the best goal of the game from 20 yards out. Andy Bidi passed inside from left back to Jordan in the centre of the pitch who set himself and struck the ball sweetly in to the top left hand corner. 4-1 Bromley.

Bromley rounded off a fantastic team performance with the final goal of the game. Fidan Fejzi once again combining with Trey Small who managed to finish inside the box, his fourth goal of the game and Bromley’s 5th! 5-1 Bromley.

A very satisfying first game of the season for the Whites, who travel to Three Bridges next Wednesday.
