Eastbourne Borough 1-6 Bromley Blues

  • Academy

Bromley Blues kick started their season with an impressive 6-1 away victory at Eastbourne Borough in the torrential rain!

Prior to the game we spoke about the importance of a quick start and tempo and it was Bromley who caught their opponents cold, pressing with energy and purpose in an incredible first 10 mins.

On 4 minutes a switch of play from left to right saw full back Sam Nicholson-Scott make a great run before pulling the ball back for Daniel Ajakayie who put Bromley one up. Just 2 minutes later a corner routine caused confusion in the Eastbourne box and Michak Stanic-Stewart put Bromley further in front. On 9 minutes Matt Bennet played a whipped ball down the left flank which Ajakayie latched onto, he cut inside and finished neatly to make it 3-0.

The game then evened out with Eastbourne growing into the game and possesion shared, however on the half hour a carbon copy of the first goal took Bromley 4-0 up, this time it was Joel Vian’s mazey run and cut back that Ajakayie tucked home to grab a first half hat trick.

The second half also started with a bang but this time it was Eastbourne who pulled one back on 46 mins, when their impressive number 7 squared and the centre forward found space between the Bromley centre halves to pull one back. However the Blues responded instantly and Vian’s through ball left Ajakayie 1v1 with the keeper to score his fourth. The scoring was completed on 60 mins when centre half Stanic-Stewart got his second  running the length of the pitch before showing the composure of a forward to round the keeper and roll the ball home. 6-1 Bromley.

The game then once again evened out with both teams enjoying some possession, Victor Naranjo and Shamal Edwards both going close for Bromley and four subs getting on to get valuable minutes on the pitch too.

A good result and team performance from the Blues to start the year.

Man of the Match: Daniel Ajakayie
