Report & Reaction: Bromley vs Torquay United

The Ravens picked up their first three points of the season, beating Torquay United 1-0 at Hayes Lane thanks to a fantastic Louis Dennis strike.

The first chance of the game fell Bromley’s way as Corey Whitely dipped a dangerous free-kick, but Mark Halstead did well to dive to his right to make the save.

Moments later and Billy Bingham saw his shot deflect wide before Reece Hannam saw a strike from a tight angle well saved after taking a corner.

George Alexander had countless chances to score in the first half and his opening chance came on 11 minutes, but his effort was blocked before he saw an effort tipped onto the bar minutes later.

Michael Cheek’s slid a ball through to Alexander after some brilliant link-up play with Billy Bingham, but it couldn’t find the sliding number 22.

Torquay did have the ball in the net on 22 minutes, but the linesman’s flag was already raised for offside.

Ross Marshall’s downward header just shy of the half-hour mark forced a great save out of Reice Charles-Cook before Dean Moxey also tried his luck, striking high from distance.

A Bromley corner eventually came back out to Harry Forster who struck a volley wide via the glancing header of Alexander.

On the stroke of half-time, Chris Bush did well to take the ball past the Torquay midfield before unleashing a shot which drilled wide.

Will Goodwin almost opened the scoring for the visitors inside the opening minutes of the second half, forcing Reice Charles-Cook into a fantastic save.

Torquay were then reduced to 10 men after Ross Marshall was shown a straight red card and it proved costly as substitute Dennis unleashed a fantastic strike to make it 1-0.

The Ravens managed to hold one to clinch all three points.

We’re back at home on Saturday 27th August as we welcome Scunthorpe United to Hayes Lane. Tickets can be purchased here.
