Bromley FC Celebrates International Women’s Day

Wednesday 8th March marks International Women’s Day where we celebrate the achievements of women. This year’s theme is #EmbracingEquity.

As part of the club’s ongoing work to increase female participation in football, our Bromley’s Men’s game on Tuesday evening, against York City, was our dedicated International Women’s Day fixture. Partnering with Her Game Too, our Community Trust hosted an evening of celebration for our women and girls who play, work or volunteer at the club.

Our evening kicked off with free girls’ football sessions on the Stadium pitch which saw over 30 girls come along to play.

We then welcomed all our women and girls’ community participants to a celebration event in Broomfields. It was a great opportunity for everyone in our women and girls’ section to meet and share experiences. Players from our girls’ youth teams, our female community participants, Belles recreational team and our Bromley FC Women all attended.

On the pitch, the players warmed up in Her Game Too t-shirts, showing their support that football is for all, while our pre-match playlist celebrated songs by female artists. Our girls’ participants were invited to be flag bearers to welcome the team on and at half-time all our female participants were applauded as they took part in a ‘Lap of Appreciation’.

Our Matchday Magazine ‘Ravens Review’ also focussed on the women and girls playing their part at Bromley FC. With features on ‘Getting to Know’ fan and Her Game Too Ambassador Georgie Weaver, the stories of Bromley FC Women as well as Women and Girls’ Development Officer Andrea Ellis, talking about the growth of female football over the last 12 months. We also launched our Supporters’ Survey where we want to hear the views of all women and girls who attend Bromley matches.

Celebrations continue this week with the community team delivering PE lessons in local primary schools as part of the #LetGirlsPlay programme, Bromley FC Women’s Her Game Too fixture on Sunday at 3pm (Free entry), followed by a Women’s Recreational Festival kicking off at 5pm.
