Bromley Football Club were one of numerous sponsors at The Richard Powell charity golf day, in which Youth Phase Development Coach Glyn Shimell and Youth Chairman Paul Clarke (above) took part.
The fundraiser was set up by Lily Powell, daughter of Richard, who sadly lost his life back in 2015, who will be running the 2018 London Marathon to raise funds for Guys’ and St Thomas’ Hospital. Lily expressed her gratitude to the staff at the hospital, after the Intensive Care unit worked their hardest to ensure that Richard was comfortable and peaceful in his final days.
“The nurses and doctors work tirelessly every day and night, not just for the patients but the families also, and I cannot thank them enough for what they did for my dad.” she commented.
“They work their hardest to save lives every single day. Sometimes, that just isn’t possible but they stay postive and never give up and that is why this charity is so close to mine and my families hearts.”
The Club sponsored the event and also donated a raffle prize to show support to what is a very valuable cause.
In summary, Shimell commented; “I was lucky enough to have played with Richard during my time at Croydon Athletic, and I was even his best man! I’m also God father to his daughter, Lilly, who ran the marathon. His father, Alan, is vice-chairman at Croydon and knows Neil (Smith) well from his time there. Overall, the event was a success and as a Club, we donated a signed Geoff Hurst photo, which raised £280 for the cause.”
