It was a familiar story to recent weeks, with players still recovering from injury, leaving the starting X1 familiar to that of our match against Aldershot. Rob Swaine returned to the starting line-up, taking up the Captains arm band again, whilst Michak Stanic-Stewart was called up from the Academy to the first team bench after impressing in training.
Eastleigh started to dominate from the very 1st minute, and Odubade’s shot just sailed wide of the post. However, just 3 minutes later his efforts were rewarded when a long ball was headed back across the box and found him unmarked for a free header, which he duly planted in to the back of the net to give Eastleigh and early lead.
Bromley came into the game, and had chances in the first half including a strong penalty shout when Anthony Cook was attacking down the wing and cut into the penalty box, when two of Eastleigh’s players appeared to unsettle Cook’s feet sending him to the ground, but despite cries from the players, and fans all around the Stadium, the referee waived play on.
Bromley came out of the blocks strongly in the 2nd half, and the Ravens continued to press for an equaliser. Their efforts were duly rewarded in the 63rd minute when Louis Dennis turned his defender on the edge of the 18 yard box and shot powerfully into the roof of the net to put them level.
Bromley continued to press for a 2nd goal with several chances going begging, however with 12 minutes to go, Jai Reason sent a speculative cross in from 30 yards out, and bounced in front of Kettings and ended up in the back of the net, sending Eastleigh ahead once again.
Bromley went in search of an equaliser, but Eastleigh’s well drilled defence held off Bromley’s attacks for the remainder of the match and sent themselves into the 1st Round Proper.
