Goalkeeper Sam Long joins on loan

We are delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Sam Long who joins us on loan from League One side Lincoln City until the end of the season.

The shot-stopper becomes the second arrival from the Imps this month after we welcomed striker Charley Kendall to the club last week.

20-year-old Long, who won Scholar of the Season at Lincoln during the 2019-20 season, penned his first professional deal at the LNER Stadium in October 2020.

Four months later, the young ‘keeper made his senior debut against Manchester United U21’s in the Papa John’s Trophy before going on to make two further appearances in the competition against Bradford and Sunderland respectively.

Long, who also spent time on loan at Gainsborough, Drogheda and most recently, Boston United, also featured in the FA Cup for Lincoln, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Bowers & Pitsea last season.

Just under a year ago and our new arrival was then handed his League One debut, playing the full 90 in a 2-1 away win at Plymouth Argyle.

Long was also called up to the England Men’s Goalkeeping Development Camp at St George’s Park in April 2021 before receiving the nod for the Scotland U21s squad in March of last year.

Welcome to Hayes Lane, Sam!
