Report: Harrogate Town 1-0 Bromley

Jack Muldoon’s 94th minute penalty was enough for the home side to take all three points against the Ravens.

Despite a heroic defensive performance, the Ravens were undone in the final seconds of the game.

Despite that, it was the Ravens who would start the game the brighter of the two sides and went close just 4 minutes in through Luke Coulson. An excellent lofted pass from Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu found JJ Hooper on the left wing, and after chasing the ball down he squared it back to Coulson, who struck a dipping effort just over the crossbar from the edge of the box.

Mark Beck, who was already enjoying a physical battle with the Bromley defence, then had the ball in the net just a minute later, but it was disallowed for a foul on Marc-Anthony Okoye.

After Sarpong-Wiredu headed a corner wide, the home side attacked once again and after George Thomson received the ball in the box and Richard Brindley lost his footing and slipped, he had only David Gregory to beat. After lining up a powerful shot, however, he was denied by an excellent, last ditch challenge from Roger Johnson.

Sarpong-Wiredu then combined well with George Porter and the latter sent in a cross towards the centre of the box where it was met by Omar Bugiel, but his header was directed well wide.

Gregory was to thank for Bromley on two further occasions in the first half, as he first tipped Jack Emmett’s effort wide before doing the same for a thunderous Lloyd Kerry effort to keep the scores level at the break.

On the stroke of half time, Callum Howe should perhaps have put his side ahead, but after being gifted a free header in the box, he planted his effort over the crossbar.

After the break, the chances were fewer and further between. Beck and Howe both missed good opportunities for Town with close range headers, before Emmett once again had a good opportunity to open the scoring.

After receiving the ball at an angle in the box, he struck a stinging drive at goal, which was brilliantly tipped across the face of goal by Gregory.

However, with Bromley having no real attacking threat and Harrogate’s attempts being thwarted by the Ravens defence, it would be deep into four minutes of stoppage time that the breakthrough would be made. After a deep free kick was sent into a crowded Bromley box, the hosts had a shot blocked on the line by JJ Hooper, which was seen by referee Joe Hull to have hit his hand, prompting him to award a penalty for Town.

Muldoon stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake, dispatching the ball into the bottom corner and sending Gregory the wrong way.
