Bromley’s trip to Gander Green lane saw them take the Derby day spoils, running out 2-0 winners.
A debut goal from Ben Williamson and a second half strike from Michael Cheek sealed the points for the Ravens, whilst a sturdy defensive performance also ensured a clean sheet.
Despite a strong start by the home side, in which Craig Eastmond forced Ryan Huddart into a fantastic save, it was the Ravens who would take the lead on 14 minutes. After earning a free kick in a central position around 23 yards from goal, up stepped Chris Bush. Having gone close in recent weeks with his set pieces, he did so again, drawing an excellent save from Nik Tzanev. The follow up from Joe Kizzi was also thwarted by the Sutton stopper, but there was no stopping debutant Williamson from smashing home at the third attempt.
On 34 minutes, good combination play between Adam Mekki and Michael Cheek saw the former feed the ball to the latter, but he could only blast an effort across the face of goal and well wide. At the other end, Harry Beautyman headed wide, as Sutton saw plenty of possession, but failed to create anything concrete.
As half time drew closer, Joe Kizzi headed a Luke Coulson free kick into the arms of Tzanev, as the Ravens went into the break a goal to the good.
In the second half, Sutton would again start on the front foot. Just seconds in, Eastmond tried his luck with a lob from just inside the Bromley half, though his effort sailed wide and failed to trouble Huddart. Beautyman and Louis John were then denied by Bromley’s back line, as an original shot from the former was well saved by Huddart, with the latter’s effort going wide.
On 69 minutes, the Ravens could and perhaps should have doubled their lead. Excellent wing play from Mekki ended in a teasing cross meeting the run of Coulson just outside the six yard box, but he couldn’t keep his effort down and missed the target.
However, just nine minutes later, the lead would be doubled. A defensive error fom Jamie Collins was seized upon by Cheek, who went one on one with Tzanev and made no mistake, finishing coolly.
The Ravens restricted the hosts to little by way of chances following this, and comfortably saw out the remaining minutes, plus injury time to seal victory.
