Manager Neil Smith has spoken after today’s defeat to Yeovil Town, in which the Ravens lost goalkeeper Mark Cousins after just two minutes.
“We knew we were going to lose at some stage. We weren’t outplayed today. I’ve had to put Chris Bush in goal for 88 minutes. My backup, Tarek (Najia), is on international duty with Lebanon U21s, so I had no replacement. It was a freak accident, but even then, we didn’t allow them much to have a shot at Bush.”
“Cheeky worked hard and took his goal well. Alfie Doughty had a great opportunity to make it 2-0 not long after, as well as Joe Kizzi in the second half. We’ve created this away from home against a side who’ve won 6 on the spin. We were still creating chances with a centre half in goal and players having to play out of position.”
“We’ll take the defeat. I don’t like the way it came but our full attention is now on Barrow next week.”
When asked about Mark Cousins, Smith commented; “My only thoughts were with Mark at the time. I ran on the pitch and got told off but I was worried about him. He didn’t know who he was or where he was at one stage. He’s travelled home with us and we’ll get him assessed. We are going to have to get another goalkeeper in now, but we hope Mark’s not out for as long as we initially thought.”
