A late, late goal from Brett Williams ensured Bromley progressed in the Kent Senior Cup, at the expense of Ebbsfleet United.

Both sides fielded a blend of youth and experience, with no less than eight academy players involved for the Ravens, as well as two academy graduates in Kristian Campbell and Jordan Higgs. The Fleet, on the other hand, in addition to a mix of academy and first team including former Bromley winger Anthony Cook, started manager Daryl McMahon, with the 33 year old former Leyton Orient man slotting in at centre midfield.

Despite United having the brighter start, it was arguably Bromley who had the first chance of note in the game. Iffy Allen beat the offside trap to meet a lofted through ball, but after lobbing it over goalkeeper Jonathan Miles, his effort hit the side netting. Sean Shields had a good chance to put the home side ahead, but drilled a shot narrowly wide, as the tie became a more sedate affair as the half drew on.

Brett Williams nearly broke the deadlock after 69 minutes, but saw his powerful, low drive fly inches the wrong side of the post. Minutes later, he went through on goal again, but this time, was denied by a brave block from Miles, who saved the effort with his legs. It was then David Gregory in the Bromley goal who would need to be alert, as Danny Mills turned his man and surged at goal, only to be denied by the advancing Gregory, who made an excellent close range save.

Miles again saved Ebbsfleet, quite literally, as he dived to his left to deny Frankie Raymond, who sent a fizzing strike towards the bottom corner, and after Michak Stanic-Stewart gathered the rebound and sent in a cross, Miles was equal to it and gathered the ball. Two minutes from time, Williams had yet another good chance. The former Torquay United striker used his strength to outmuscle two defenders and force his way into the box, before unleashing a well struck shot which clipped the outside of the post. A goal was surely on its way.

And not long after, it arrived. In the 90th minute, fantastic wing play from Allen saw him deliver an inviting cross towards the six yard box, which was directed into the bottom corner, leaving Miles stranded, and handing Bromley a deserved winner, on the balance of play.
