It’s been a good month for….

Woking – Alan Dowson’s side are soaring higher than they ever would have imagined. After coming up as Promotion Final winners in May they found themselves at the summit of the National League at the end of the month. Not content with dispatching fancied Chesterfield, the Cards also claimed big wins against three of last season’s top six – Solihull Moors, AFC Fylde and Harrogate – not bad going!

It’s been a bad month for….

Chorley – After the euphoria of promotion last season, Chorley have struggled with life in the National League up to yet. After starting the season with three draws on the spin, heavy reverses to Solihull Moors, Maidenhead and Notts County soon followed and the Magpies found themselves at the foot of the table – there’s plenty of football still to be played!

Star performer….

Elliot Osborne (Stockport County) – Losing your talisman is never a good thing. So when Stockport County said goodbye to Matty Warburton this summer, you could forgive fans for being a little concerned. Warburton left big shoes to fill but midfielder Elliot Osborne isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. The midfield maestro has been an integral cog to Jim Gannon’s well-oiled County so far this season – he’s also chipped in with a goal or three!

Surprise package….

Dover Athletic – The competition was a fierce as it’s ever been for a spot in the top seven of the National League this season. This time last season, Dover couldn’t have believed where they might be 12 months later. They picked up five wins in their eight August games including maximums against Wrexham, Chesterfield and Harrogate.

Standout result….

FC Halifax 4-1 AFC Fylde – Pete Whild seems to have got the Shaymen firing. But after their decent start faltered against Wrexham and Aldershot, the visit of last season’s losing promotion finalists might not have been top of their wish list.  Liam McAlinden’s early goal settled nerves before Tobi Sho-Silva added a second. Danny Rowe got one back on the stroke of half-time before Cameron King and Jerome Binnom-Williams made it a night to remember in West Yorkshire.

In focus – Bromley

If you’d had told Bromley fans they would still be unbeaten at the end of August, they may well have just snapped your hands off. Dropping just six points from their first eight games of the season, wins against Ebbsfleet, Aldershot, Hartlepool, Boreham Wood and Maidenhead has seen the Ravens shoot up the table.
