Match preview: Bromley vs Chesterfield

The Opposition 

Chesterfield sit 6th in the National League on 73 points from 40 matches.

They have won two out of their last five matches, beating Dover and Wealdstone, drawing to Notts County and losing to Grimsby and Halifax.

The Spireites were relegated to the National League after finishing bottom of League Two in the 2017/18 season.

They have remained in the National League ever since, finishing 15th, 20th and 6th in their three season in the fifth tier.

The Opposition Manager

The Chesterfield manager is Paul Cook who was appointed on the 10th of February 2021. 

He has guided the Hampshire based side to 6th place at this point of the National League season.

Cook has managed 14 competitive fixtures with Chesterfield since his return, achieving five wins in all competitions.

The 55-year-old has previously managed Southport, Sligo Rovers, Accrington Stanley, Chesterfield (in a previous spell), Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town. He has won two FAI cups with Sligo, League Two with Chesterfield and Portsmouth and League One with Wigan.

During his playing career, Cook played as a midfielder. He played for Wigan, Norwich, Wolves, Coventry City, Tranmere, Stockport County, Burnley and Accrington; making over 40 top flight appearances.

The Previous Meeting

The last match between Bromley and Chesterfield was at the Technique Stadium on 4th September, with the score ending 2-2.

Michael Cheek opened the scoring with a penalty in the 36th minute, with George Carline levelling for the Spireites shortly after.

Manny Oyeleke make it 2-1 to Chesterfield with just under 20 minutes to go.

In the final minute of injury time, Michael Cheek scored from close-range to secure a point for the Ravens, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.
