Match preview: Torquay United vs Bromley

The Opposition 

Torquay sit 11th in the National League, on 43 points from 30 matches.

The Gulls have picked up nine points from their last five league matches, beating Dover and Wrexham and drawing to Barnet, Boreham Wood and Wealdstone. 

Their top scorer is Armani Little, who has scored ten goals in the National League.

The Devon outfit were promoted to the National League in 2019 following a first placed finish in the National League South. In their two full seasons back in the fifth tier following promotion, they finished 14th and second. Following that second placed finish in the National League, Torquay made it to the National League play-off final, where they lost on penalties to Hartlepool.

The Opposition Manager

Gary Johnson was appointed by Torquay on 13th September 2018, following the sacking of Gary Owers.

In 162 games in charge, Johnson has won 83 matches, drawing 31 and losing 48. 

In that time, he has guided United to promotion to the National League after winning the National League South in 2019 and to the National League Play-Off final in 2021, losing out on promotion to Hartlepool.

Previously, he has managed Cambridge United, Kettering Town, Latvia’s National Team, Yeovil Town, Bristol City, Peterborough United, Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town. The 66-year-old achieved promotion to the Championship with Yeovil and promotion to League Two with Cheltenham.

The Last Meeting

Bromley last took on Torquay on 9th October 2021 at Hayes Lane, with the score ending 2-0 to the Ravens.

The first goal was a clever Marcus Sablier finish in the 17th minute following a cross from George Alexander, netting his first for the club.

The second was a venomous strike from Omar Sowunmi in the 36th minute to give him his first goal of the season.
