Match report: Boreham Wood 1-1 Bromley

  • Men's

Bromley had to settle for a point on the road, as their Tuesday night trip to Meadow Park ended 1-1.

In a fairly quiet first half, the first attempt of the evening went Bromley’s way. Frankie Raymond’s driven effort was blocked into the path of Michael Cheek, who, from distance, tested Nathan Ashmore with a low drive.

Former Bromley man Corey Whitely then had a great chance to open the scoring, but after weaving in and out of challenges in the box, he saw his effort well blocked by Chris Bush.

However, the deadlock was soon broken. After 29 minutes, Tyrone Marsh took aim from 20 yards and found the bottom corner, via a heavy deflection off Bush.

As half time drew near, Bromley were forced into an early change, as Jack Bridge picked up a knock and was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

The second half saw Bromley present a much more attacking game and would soon level the scores on 55 minutes. Luke Coulson’s fizzing cross caused problems in the Wood six yard area, and they could only clear into the path of Courtney Duffus, who struck home from the centre of the box.

Bromley continued to press, with Coulson causing problems for the Wood defence, who had to deal with a number of his crosses. The Ravens would then go one step closer, as another clearance fell to Wakefield on the edge of the box, but his volleyed effort clipped the crossbar.

Cheek would soon go close to adding to his 12 National League goals so far this season, but after a scramble in the six yard box, Ashmore somehow kept his prodded effort out with his feet.

The Ravens would soon be wondering how they hadn’t scored in the second half, as Joe Kizzi and Jack Holland were unable to stab the ball beyond Ashmore in another six yard box scramble, with some last ditch defending from the hosts ensuring the scores were kept level.

Bush had to be at his best at the other end, as he bravely met Marsh’s shot with his forehead, deflecting it over the crossbar. Moments later, Mark Cousins made an important save, as he reacted impeccably to tip Kane Smith’s near post drive wide.

Bromley XI: Cousins, Kizzi, Bingham, Bush, Holland (C), Coulson, Raymond, Cheek, Duffus, Trotter, Bridge (Wakefield).

Unused substitutes: Alabi, Roberts, Williamson, Arthurs
