Bromley drew 1-1 against visitors, Wrexham, at Hayes Lane in a frantic game.
Early on in the first half, Wrexham attacker, Kwame Thomas, passed to Wrexham captain, Paul Rutherford, who produced a dangerous cross, for only Chris Bush to clear. However, the game was overshadowed by what appeared to be a serious injury to Wrexham goalkeeper, Rob Lainton. A through ball was played to James Alabi – with the Bromley striker appearing to accidentally collide with Lainton. After the lengthy delay, which lasted over 35 minutes, occurred whilst Lainton was receiving treatment and ushered off by Paramedics, the first half resumed once again.
Shortly after the delay, it was The Ravens who took the lead. Reeco Hackett-Fairchild found Billy Bingham, and the Bromley midfielder skilfully glided his way past the Wrexham defence and was through on goal. Bingham forced a great save out of Wrexham substitute goalkeeper, Christian Dibble, but the ball fell to Cheek who smashed in the rebound. It was the striker’s 7th goal of the season.
Minutes later, the hosts could have scored a second. Cheek swiftly made a good run down the wing to cross to Alabi, with the striker turning and shooting high over the bar. Bingham, who was having a first half to remember, nearly scored when an audacious effort. The midfielder chested the ball down and his shot just dipped over Dibble’s bar.
In the second half, Bromley started the game with real purpose. Luke Coulson’s corner found Cheek, who rose high, only to see his header hacked off the line by the Wrexham defence. Good instinct from the Bromley striker. Then it was Alabi’s turn to test the opposition. Alabi showed great strength by outmuscling his defender to then only see his powerful shot well saved by Dibble at the near post.
Coulson then produced some fine skill to get away from his marker to then pass to Cheek who forced Dibble to expertly tip his well placed effort over the bar. With less than 20 minutes remaining, Wrexham had their first real opportunity in the game to level the score. Elliot Durrell was found in acres of space and shot to Mark Cousins’ right side, to force a good save from the Bromley goalkeeper.
Minutes later, Wrexham’s pressure paid off. Paul Rutherford delivered a cross to the back post where Adi Yussuf rose above two challenges and placed his header into The Ravens’ net, despite Cousins getting a hand on the effort. Substitute, Harry Forster, nearly restored the lead for Bromley. The midfielder shot to Dibble’s left but the Wrexham goalkeeper brilliantly parried his effort away. Bromley displayed their dominance throughout most of the game and were extremely unlucky to not come away with all three points.
