Match report: Bromley 1-3 Stockport County

  • Men's

The Ravens fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Stockport County on Tuesday night.

In a game of few first half opportunities for both teams, the first real chance landed to the Hatters. Ryan Croasdale’s effort from 20 yards took a wicked deflection off the Bromley defence and went just over the bar.

The visitors kept on attacking, Scott Quiqley crossed the ball into the box and found Paddy Madden whose header was comfortably saved by Mark Cousins.

Moments later, Ryan Rydel’s corner was met by Ash Palmer at the back post, with Cousins once again coming to Bromley’s rescue, forcing a great reactive save from the defender’s header.

As the half was coming to an end, Chris Bush found Luke Coulson in the penalty area with a precise cross. The midfielder’s effort nearly found George Alexander who was just inches away from connecting with the ball with only Ben Hinchliffe to beat.

The second half commenced and it was a cagey affair between both sets of teams, with many physical challenges flying in.

As the game progressed, Scott Quigley’s effort from an acute angle was easily saved by Cousins.

That pressure was to pay off as Stockport took the lead moments later. Madden escaped his marker and headed in a cross by Macauley Southam-Hales from the right side of the pitch.

Then, with just over 20 minutes to play, Quigley’s powerful shot from 25 yards went in, doubling the lead for the visitors.

As the game was coming to an end, the Hatters got their third goal of the night when Madden expertly volleyed in a shot from a throw-in, leaving Cousins no chance.

The Ravens managed to get a consolation, when Byron Webster’s ferocious shot from 25 yards found the top corner. A brilliant goal from the captain despite a disappointing evening for Bromley.

Bromley will look to return to winning ways when they face King’s Lynn Town on Saturday.
