Bromley continued their blistering form by beating Torquay United 2-0 at Hayes Lane in front of the BT Sport cameras.
It was to be an eventful start to the game for Marcus Sablier, who skied his shot over the bar, after a Luke Coulson corner. Then the moment the Bromley faithful and the midfielder had been waiting for arrived. After an inch perfect cross by George Alexander, Sablier managed to acrobatically hook the ball into the visitors’ net. An incredible moment for the Bromley Academy graduate.
Bromley looked to build on their momentum, with Chris Bush seeing his free-kick nestle wide of the goal. It was then Torquay’s turn to apply pressure on the Ravens’ defence. Tom Lapslie surged forward, unmarked, and saw his shot go just wide of the goal, a real let off for Bromley.
In the latter stages of the first half, Bromley doubled their lead in style. Byron Webster chested the ball to Omar Sowunmi who unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner and sent the crowd at Hayes Lane into delirium.
In the second half, Bromley nearly got their third, when Corey Whitely saw his curling effort hit the side netting. Coulson then tested Shaun MacDonald by unleashing a powerful effort, to which the keeper palmed away. In the 72nd minute, Louis Dennis got on the end of a Coulson delivery but headed wide.
As the game was coming to an end, Michael Cheek led a Bromley counter attack. The forward found Dennis, who passed to Whitely – with the latter seeing his shot saved by MacDonald from close range. Joe Lewis nearly restored some pride for Torquay, when his header came off the post following a corner. Cheek and Dennis also came close, but their shots were denied by MacDonald.
The victory today was Bromley’s fifth win in a row, with Sablier and Sowunmi getting their first goals for Bromley. The Ravens will look to continue their winning streak when they face Hungerford Town in the FA Cup next week.
