Match report: Grimsby Town 1-2 Bromley

Bromley came out on top at Blundell park this weekend, beating Grimsby Town 2-1.

The first chance fell Grimsby’s way as Giles Coke tried his luck from the edge of the box, but his effort deflected just wide.

Moments later, John McAtee stepped up to take a dangerous free-kick before dipping his shot over the bar.

Another chance fell the Mariners’ way with 11 minutes on the clock as a free-kick found Luke Waterfall who headed the ball over from close range.

Grimsby maintained their attacking threat and they received their just rewards on 23 minutes when Maguire-Drew drilled home from close range.

The Grimsby scorer was in the thick of it again, this time drilling an effort just wide.

Bromley managed to net an equaliser on 39 minutes when George Alexander poked home from close range to silence the home fans.

The Ravens then came close to a second on the stroke of half-time. Grimsby ‘keeper Max Crocombe saving both Jude Arthurs and Harry Forster’s effort from close range to keep the scores level going into the break.

The visitors started the second half just how they finished the first, with a great chance to score. This time, Corey Whitely, who netted in the reverse fixture, saw a low effort saved.

New Grimsby arrival Tristan Abrahams then had a great chance to put the hosts back in front, but he scuffed an effort into the arms of Mark Cousins.

Grimsby were at it again and forced Cousins into a brilliant save to deny substitute Harry Clifton.

The Bromley ‘keeper was called into another great save to deny McAtee moments later.

Up the other end and Cheek tried the spectacular from distance, but his effort flew over.

With eight minutes remaining, the Ravens won it after a Luke Coulson corner was bundled in to the back of the net to send the away end crazy.

The Ravens held on to take all three points back to Hayes Lane.
