The Ravens travelled to Roots Hall on Tuesday evening, to face a Southend side, jubilant from a four game unbeaten run, much like Andy Woodman’s side, who came into this game on a five match unbeaten run, it was teed up to be an exciting match.
It was a first-half of two halves, with Bromley starting the better of the two sides, causing issues for the Shrimpers’ defence, with Noor Husin and Will Atkinson picking up bookings in the first 10 minutes, as the Ravens’ pressure continued.
For the rest of the first period, Southend were on top, with chances falling to Matthew Dennis and Nathan Ralph, but they could not find an opener for their side.
Against the run of play, George Alexander found his way through on goal after latching onto a misplaced pass, but he could not get a shot off after a fantastic piece of goalkeeping from Steve Arnold, coming out of his box to snuff out the potential danger.
Southend regained their pressure and took the rest of the first to Bromley as they looked the most likely to open the scoring, but despite their best efforts, the teams went in at the break at a stalemate.
The second-half started much like the first one ended, with the Shrimpers in the ascendancy and their hard work paid dividends, when following an effort which hit the post from Sam Dalby, Matthew Dennis tapped in to break the deadlock early in the second period.
Things went from bad to worse for Bromley, as just three minutes later, Tom Clifford swung in a cross from a corner, which was met by the head of Shaun Hobson and into the goal to double their lead.
After making three substitutes before the hour mark, Bromley started growing into the second-half, with Billy Bingham firing just wide from outside the box and Luke Coulson coming close but his low driven shot was met by the leg of Arnold.
Despite the pressure, the Ravens could not find a way through the Southend defence, and the game finished 2-0 to the hosts, who extended their unbeaten run to five games.
As for Bromley, their unbeaten run of five games came to an end as we turn our attentions to the FA Trophy on Saturday.
