Match report: Tonbridge Angels vs Bromley

  • Men's

The Ravens progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy after beating Tonbridge Angels 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The first real chance fell Tonbridge’s way as Ellery Balcombe was rounded by an Angels forward before Kellen Fisher was forced into a vital sliding block.

After a quiet start to the game, the Ravens almost opened the scoring on 24 minutes after Jack Cawley did well to loop a ball over to Corey Whitely on the flank. Our number 18 placed a cross into the box which found James Alabi who skied an effort from close range.

The closest effort of the first period fell to Whitely as he bent a shot just wide of the post.

Up the other end and Tom Beere saw a driving effort fly just past the crossbar and into the Bromley fans in the terrace.

In the second half, Joe Turner began causing problems and his first chance floated just over the bar.

He was in the thick of it again, this time sliding an effort just wide from a Tommy Wood cross.

Three chances in quick succession ended with Balcombe gathering before the hosts were reduced to 10 men after Harry Hudson received his marching orders.

The dead-lock was broken on 81 minutes after Luke Coulson fizzed a ball into Palace Francis who poked home his first for the club.

The lead didn’t last long though as Turner netted a late equaliser, sending the tie to penalties.

Balcombe proved to be the hero of the afternoon though, saving Turner’s penalty to send the ravens through.
