Report: Barrow 2-0 Bromley

  • Men's

Bromley’s trip to league leaders Barrow ended in defeat in front of the BT Sport Cameras on Saturday afternoon, as a goal in each half saw the hosts claim the points.

The first chance of note fell Bromley’s way 11 minutes in, when Joel Dixon raced out of his penalty area to try and clear the ball, but was beaten to it by Ben Williamson. The Ravens forward tried his luck with a shot on the turn, but saw his effort deflected wide.

The hosts responded with a chance of their own on 20 minutes, after Scott Quigley had been fouled and a free kick awarded 25 yards from goal. John Rooney stepped up and went for goal, seeing his shot deflect off the Bromley wall before being tipped over the bar by Ryan Huddart. From the resulting corner, Ben Williamson’s attempted headed clearance nearly resulted in an own goal, but went inches wide of the back post as Bromley breathed a sigh of relief.

However, on 34 minutes, the Bluebirds would take the lead. A slick counter attack orchestrated by Rooney resulted in him playing an inviting cross to the back post, where Dior Angus tapped home for his third consecutive goal against Bromley.

Four minutes into the second half, Bromley thought they were level. A searching ball forward from Frankie Raymond reached the run of Luke Coulson, who lobbed the advancing Dixon, but agonisingly saw his effort cleared off the line by Sam Hird.

On 69 minutes, substitute Corey Whitely could and should have levelled the scores with his first touch. A well worked counter attack involving Coulson and Wood ended with the latter putting the ball on a plate for Whitely, but with only Dixon to beat, he slotted wide from close range.

Just four minutes later, Barrow would have their second. A right footed inswinging corner from Rooney evaded Whitely at the near post and deflected into the net off the unfortunate Huddart.

Quigley rattled the crossbar moments later with a fierce strike from just inside the box, and Huddart needed to make a smart save from Oliver Dyson on the rebound.
