Bromley returned to Hayes Lane for their first pre-season friendly. The game saw a number of trialists and first team players feature, as well as different sides selected for each half.
After a cagey opening few minutes, the returning Corey Whitely shot straight at the opposition keeper.
One of Bromley’s trialists then played a sumptuous through ball to James Alabi. The striker, with the goalkeeper to beat, could not convert and forced an instinctive save from Luca Ashby-Hammond.
Bromley’s trialist goalkeeper was then called into action, saving well with his feet. Overall, there were few chances for both teams throughout the first half.
In the second half, a mistake in defence from Bromley, saw Fulham forward Terry Ablade have an open goal to aim at, the forward made no mistake and the visitors took the lead.
Bromley nearly equalised when a trialist’s header was hacked off the line from a corner.
Then, the moment Bromley had been waiting for. The ball was played to a trialist on the wing, he weaved his way past a couple of defenders, inside the opposition’s penalty area and slotted the ball with ease into the bottom corner. A deserved equaliser for The Ravens.
With just under 10 minutes remaining, Jude Arthurs, from 20 yards, forced another good save from Ashby-Hammond.
As the game was coming to an end, Bromley had two major opportunities to win. Firstly, Arthurs delivered a great corner, to which a Bromley trialist saw his goal-bound header cleared. The ball was then played to the wing and an incoming cross was headed wide by a trialist.
It was honours even at Hayes Lane, but there certainly were moments of promise for the hosts.
