Bromley welcomed Barnet to Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening, for the first competitive meeting of the Clubs since 1957.

The Ravens were on the back foot early on, as Barnet won possession in the middle of the park and worked a chance for Jack Taylor, but his effort stung the palms of David Gregory, who made a smart stop.

The Ravens would attempt to respond through Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, who took on and got the better of Dan Sweeney, but saw his cutback into the six yard box cleared. A couple of minutes later, Sweeney would have a chance of his own. After a strong run down the right, he tried his luck with a low shot from distance, but Gregory was more than equal to it.

However, it would be second time lucky for Sweeney on 21 minutes, as he nodded his side in front. A deep cross was headed back across goal by Taylor, and Sweeney was in the right place at the right time to head the ball home from close range.

Ten minutes later, Bromley would come a whisker away from equalising. Porter picked up possession and drifted infield, before letting fly from at least 25 yards, beating Mark Cousins but agonisingly seeing his pilevdriver hit the post.

It would then be the turn of the Bees to be denied by the woodwork, as David Tutonda’s excellent footwork allowed him space to set the ball to Wes Fonguck, but his low strike hit the base of the post.

After the break, it would be more of the same, as the visitors searched for a second.

The first chance would fall inadvertently to Cheye Alexander, but his cross, which floated goalwards, was brilliantly tipped over the crossbar by Gregory. Soon after, Bromley could and should have equalised. A deep cross into the box was headed into the path of John Goddard by Roger Johnson, but the on-loan Stevenage man could only strike a volley straight into the arms of Cousins.

Less than a minute later, and Barnet were inches away from doubling their lead. After former Greenwich Borough striker Jack Barham was played through on goal and struck a dipping volley at goal, which rattled the underside of the crossbar and was deemed to have not crossed the line. Barham would be denied again soon after, as his low shot was well saved by Gregory.

Sweeney was causing all manner of problems for Bromley, and threatened again from a corner with 14 minutes remaining, but sent a free header wide of goal when he should have done better.

The visitors kept possession well as time ran out for Bromley, and managed to restrict the home side to few opportunities.

David Tutonda was shown a second yellow in the dying minutes for a poor challenge on Frankie Raymond, but the Bees saw out the remaining minutes to claim the points.
