Report: Bromley 0-2 Boreham Wood

  • Men's

Bromley welcomed Boreham Wood to the Westminster Waste Stadium on Saturday, with the Ravens looking to carry on an impressive record of just one defeat in 2019.

In what turned out to be something of a scrappy game, Bromley had plenty of early pressure but failed to make anything of it, with Omar Bugiel’s initial header being blocked into the path of George Porter in the box, but he saw his hooked effort blocked too.

Porter would go close again moments later, but after JJ Hooper played a teasing cross into Frankie Raymond, the midfield man played a neat pass to Porter in space, but his low shot from just inside the box was blocked on the line.

With Frankie Sutherland missing due to suspension, Luke Coulson stepped up to corner duties on the left side, and almost saw one of them profit, but Jake Goodman’s header was narrowly off target.

After scoring an incredible goal last week, Coulson nearly went one better this time, as he struck a first time volleyed effort from 35 yards out, as Ryan Huddart was backpeddling, following a poor clearance.

Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead on 40 minutes. After an initial ball into the box was not dealt with by Bromley, Ralston Gabriel was on hand to divert home from the 6 yard box, following a deflected Idris Kanu effort.

In the second half, it would be Bromley who went close first. Raymond hit an absolute piledriver from 25 yards which appeared to be destined for the top corner, but for the intervention of Huddart, who made a fantastic diving save.

Coulson would then see an effort blocked by Kieran Murtagh, before thundering a peach of a strike against the crossbar, with Huddart beaten.

Bromley’s afternoon would be made even more difficult, when on 62 minutes, Goodman went down in an innocuous collision with a Wood player and looked to have landed awkwardly. After a stoppage in play, he was stretchered off the pitch.

The Wood would go close to doubling their lead on 67 minutes, as Tom Champion struck a sweet volley at goal, only for David Gregory to intervene with a fine save, tipping the ball over the crossbar.

Murtagh would again be to thank for the visitors as he made another fantastic block, this time from Okoye, whose header was set to nestle in the bottom corner following an excellent Raymond corner.

However, just before 6 minutes of injury time was signalled, Wood doubled their lead. After some good hold up play from Sean Shields, substitute Bradley Ash took a shot on the turn which was parried by Gregory into the path of Kanu, who had the simple task of tapping the ball over the line.

Bromley XI: Gregory, Raymond, Bugiel (Lewis), Higgs (Sarpong-Wiredu), Okoye, Goodman (Johnson), Porter (C), Wood, Brindley, Coulson, Hooper.

Unused substitutes: Dunne, Philpot

Attendance: 1326 (57 Boreham Wood supporters)
