Bromley were defeated 0-2 against visitors, Stockport County, at Hayes Lane. The first key moment fell to Bromley midfielder, Luke Coulson, who shot wide of the goal. Moments later, Coulson led a Bromley counter attack and managed to find Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, who forced a good save out of Stockport goalkeeper, Ben Hinchliffe.
Stockport’s first chance fell to John Rooney. The attacker, on the volley, managed to hit the post after Byron Webster’s clearance. Stockport continued to attack and took the lead through Alex Reid. After Rooney’s header was cleared off the line by Joe Kizzi, the defender kicked the ball into
Reid from point blank range, which rebounded off the striker and went straight into the Bromley net, a scrappy goal to say the least.
However, Bromley were determined to try and get back into the game. Liam Trotter’s powerful cross was palmed away by Hinchcliffe with the on rushing James Alabi unable to connect. As the half reached the half hour mark, Reid should have doubled the lead for The Hatters. Mark Kitching’s cross found Reid and the attacker shot wide, despite being unmarked. The biggest opportunity then fell to Hackett-Fairchild, who’s shot was cleared off the line after a flurry of efforts for The Ravens. As the half was coming to an end, Webster’s fast paced cross found inform striker, Michael Cheek, with the forward shooting wide despite there being an open goal.
In the second half, Joe Kizzi’s perfect cross found Michael Cheek, the Bromley forward placed his header wide. A fantastic delivery from the Bromley fullback. Despite some spells of possession for Bromley, it was the visitors who doubled their lead. Substitute, Sam Minihan, delivered a cross that found Rooney- the Stockport forward was left unmarked and cooly slotted the ball past Mark Cousins from close range. Throughout the second half, Stockport maintained their defensive shape, which The Ravens found difficult to break down. Chris Bush’s long throw found Webster, with the defender’s backwards header barely threatening Hinchcliffe. As the game was coming to an end, Chris Bush’s terrific effort from 25 yards hit the post. The Ravens will look to bounce back when they face Yeovil Town in midweek.
