Report: Bromley 1-0 Notts County

  • Men's

Bromley made it five wins in a row by defeating fellow promotion hopefuls Notts County 1-0 at Hayes Lane.

Harry Forster created the first opportunity for the Ravens, when he darted his way into the opposition’s penalty area and placed his shot just wide of the goal.

The visitors then attacked with impetus and nearly took the lead in quite some style. Ruben Rodrigues, from 20 yards, hit the post, catching Mark Cousins completely off guard. After a fine counter attack, led by Michael Cheek, the striker found fellow forward George Alexander who could only shoot straight at Sam Slocombe.

Moments later, Cal Roberts raced through on goal and forced an instinctive save from Cousins. The visitors kept causing issues for the Bromley defence, with Roberts in the thick of the action once again forcing another incredible fingertip save from Cousins, who just palmed away Roberts’ curling effort from 25 yards that was heading into the bottom corner.

Chris Bush, from his own half, saw Slocombe off his line and tried the spectacular, with County’s goalkeeper rushing back to save the ball. After some incredible defensive resilience, Bromley took the lead through inform Jude Arthurs. Following a corner to Bromley, a goalmouth scramble occurred with Arthurs managing to be in the right place at the right time and once again found the net, shooting from close range just before the half came to an end.

In the Second half, Corey Whitely intercepted a ball on the wing, taking it past his marker and weaving his way into the penalty area, only to shoot over the bar. A positive start for Bromley. Whitely again was causing trouble for Notts County, where he skilled his way into the box and hit the post. As the game was approaching the final 20 minutes, substitute Kairo Mitchell, shot from a tight angle, making Cousins get down low to save the effort. In the latter stages of the game, Scott Wagstaff had the opportunity to finish the game off for Bromley. Luke Coulson crossed the ball into the box, with the ball falling to the midfielder, who shot low and made Slocombe save with his feet.

Following some late pressure from the Magpies, Bromley held on for all three points and look to continue their winning form when facing FC Halifax Town away next weekend.
