Report: Bromley 1-0 Solihull Moors

  • Men's

Bromley built on their midweek victory over Yeovil Town by defeating Solihull Moors 1-0 in a tense game at Hayes Lane.

In the early stages of the game, it was the visitors who started with intent, but Jordan Cranston’s free kick was easily saved by Mark Cousins. Minutes later, Jamie Ward played an excellent through ball to Adam Rooney, who was through on goal, but Chris Bush held his nerve and produced a fantastic tackle to deny the attacker a certain shot on goal.

As the game reached the half hour mark, it was the Ravens’ turn to test the opposition goalkeeper, but Frankie Raymond’s free kick was easily saved by Ryan Boot. The game was then called to a halt as Courtney Duffus received treatment, following a seemingly innocuous challenge with Tyrone Williams. As the first half was coming to an end, Duffus had a golden opportunity to give Bromley the lead. The striker showed determination to intercept a poor pass from Boot, and was left with only the goalkeeper to beat, but curled a shot wide from close range. Generally, the first half was a cagey affair for both sides, with chances far and few between.

In the second half, Jack Bridge produced some mesmerising skills, getting away from his markers on the right, only to see his low cross into the six yard box cleared by the Moors’ defence. Both teams pressed for a winner, with the game being played in an increasingly physical manner. Then with eleven minutes left to play, Bromley took the lead. Joe Kizzi muscled through challenges at the back post to meet Raymond’s exquisite corner, producing a low, powerful header to give the Ravens the lead.

A tense finale was to then follow. Cranston delivered a fantastic ball into substitute Justin Donawa, whose header looped just over the crossbar. The Moors kept pilling on the pressure, and went agonisingly close when Jamie Ward’s long range effort produced a superb, instinctive save from Cousins.

A fantastic victory for Bromley, who face league leaders Sutton United at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening.
