Report: Bromley 1-1 Boreham Wood

  • Men's

A brave Michael Cheek header was not enough for The Ravens as they drew against visitors, Boreham Wood, 1-1 at Hayes Lane.

Bromley had the first chance of the game when Cheek connected to a cross, only to place his header over the bar. Good positioning from the Bromley  forward early on. However, it was the visitors who took the lead in quite some style. Piero Mingoia passed the ball to Sorba Thomas, the midfielder cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner leaving Mark Cousins with no chance.

Bromley threatened to come back into the game soon after. A fantastic delivery from Frankie Raymond was met by stand in captain, Byron Webster, who headed just wide. Boreham Wood nearly doubled their lead as the half was coming to an end. Midfielder, Adam McDonnell, instinctively found Thomas who forced a great save from Cousins, tipping the ball over the bar. With minutes remaining of the first half, Cheek scored his 6th goal of the season to level things up. The striker bravely got on the end of a deflected Frankie Raymond free kick – heading into the net whilst colliding in the aftermath with Boreham Wood goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore.

The second half kicked off, with both teams putting in a number of physical challenges. A cagey affair to say the least, with Billy Bingham going the closest for The Ravens as the game reached the hour mark, seeing his powerful effort fly wide of the goal. With less Than 20 minutes remaining, James Alabi pounced on mistake by the Boreham Wood defence, only to shoot wide after further pressure from the opposition backline. With 10 minutes remaining, Webster headed away a great cross from Kane Smith, with Kobongo Tshimanga ready to intercept. Kory Roberts also produced some brilliant defending by blocking an effort that was heading on target from Gus Mafuta late into the game.

Bromley will look to return to winning ways when the face Maidenhead United at York Road on Saturday.
