Report: Bromley 1-3 Sutton United

  • Men's

Bromley were beaten 3-1 by league leaders Sutton United at Hayes Lane, but remained in the playoff places due to results elsewhere.

The visitors started brightly and threatened to score early on when Isaac Olaofe got down the right wing and hit an angled shot just over the bar. Moments later, the game completely turned on its head, when Craig Eastmond fired in a powerful shot from the edge of the box, which cannoned off underside of the crossbar and hit the unknowing Mark Cousins, squirming over the line.

Bromley did not give up though, Bridge was found on the right wing and cut inside, firing a low shot which Dean Bouzanis saved with his foot. Luke Coulson was then taken down in the box, and controversially, no penalty was given by the referee.

In the second half, a minute in, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Olaofe was felled by Kory Roberts in the box. In form midfielder, Harry Beautyman, took the spot kick and sent Cousins the wrong way, firing into the top corner to double Sutton’s lead.

With just over 20 minutes to go, Olaofe raced through on goal on the counter attack and calmly slotted the ball past Cousins, who got a touch to the ball. Bromley scored a stunning consolation through Jack Bridge on 79 minutes, though that is all it would prove to be. The winer brilliantly twisted and turned past his markers and placed his curled effort into the bottom corner.
