Bromley welcomed King’s Lynn Town to Hayes Lane in sub-zero conditions as they looked to restore pride after Saturday’s defeat.
The game was played in a very attacking style from both sides. Former Chelsea academy player Alex Kiwomya was a major threat down the visitors’ right wing, crossing numerous times which the Bromley defence had to clear.
The first opportunity in the game fell to Michael Cheek. January signing Courtney Duffus crossed the ball looking for his fellow forward. The ball landed to Cheek who stabbed a shot wide.
Despite both sides having a lot of possession of the ball, there were few key chances in the first half but as soon as the half was coming to an end, Bromley’s threat paid off. After some clever link up play between Joe Kizzi and Jack Bridge, it was the latter who produced an instinctive cross that found Duffus at the front post. The striker then skilfully flicked the ball past Archie Mair, it was the forward’s first goal for the Ravens.
In the second half, it was Bromley who started the more positive of the two teams. After a cross into Tom Purrington, the midfielder held the ball up well and passed to Cheek whose effort went over the goal. The striker was once again involved moments later, testing Mair’s reactions after seeing his quickly taken effort very well saved by the opposition goalkeeper.
Then the moment Bromley had been waiting for. After a fantastic interception from Liam Trotter, the midfielder surged forward and found Duffus in the penalty area. The forward unleashed a powerful effort which Mair could only get a hand to, and the ball nestled in the far corner.
The Ravens then nearly had a third goal. Duffus, who was full of confidence, took advantage of Chris Smith’s slip and dribbled with intent into the opposition’s half. The forward unselfishly found Trotter who forced Mair to save with his feet.
A well deserved victory for Bromley who visit Grosvenor Vale on Saturday to take on Wealdstone.
