Report: Bromley 2-2 Aldershot Town

  • Men's

The game began in a lively manner, with both sides looking a threat on the counter attack, and Town were presented with a good opportunity to open the scoring when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box, but Cheye Alexander’s powerful effort couldn’t beat the wall.

However, they did take the lead just moments later, as a lapse in concentration in the Bromley defence allowed Scott Rendell to convert a low pass from close range. Seven minutes later, the Shots’ lead was doubled as Matt McClure weaved in and out of the Bromley defence before finishing low past Alan Julian.

Liam Bellamy also went close for the visitors as half time drew close, as his attempted cross floated towards goal, but luckily for Bromley, fell narrowly wide.

Bromley’s best chance came after Dave Martin’s pinpoint free kick was headed back across goal by former Aldershot man Alfie Pavey, but with the attentions of several defenders, Tobi Sho-Silva was unable to tap home following the knock down.

Bromley did find an equaliser just a minute before half time, as they piled on the pressure. Joe Anderson’s excellent cross was met by the head of Sho-Silva, who flicked a header across goal and into the net.

Bromley began the second half as they ended the first, and minutes in the lively Martin’s speculative effort flew just over the bar, as Bromley pushed for an equaliser. Joe Anderson nearly gifted Aldershot a third goal, as his back header from a Town free kick had Julian beaten, but luckily for him, it hit the crossbar before being cleared away. Bradley Goldberg came close to levelling the scores, but after bursting into the area from an angle, his low shot was parried by Smith in the Shots’ goal before being cleared.

However, it wasn’t long before the home side drew level through Louis Dennis, almost immediately after joining the action as a substitute. After more sustained pressure, Dennis broke through and produced a low finish from a slight angle to beat Smith.
