Bromley welcomed Woking for the second time this season at Hayes Lane as the Ravens looked to get their first win of 2021.
The first chance of the first half fell to the visitors. Jonte Smith beat his marker out wide and delivered the ball into the penalty area looking for Max Kretzschmar, who could only shoot wide. Bromley then threatened to score on successive occasions. A Chris Bush long throw was flicked on by Byron Webster, whose header nearly found Charlie Wakefield, for only the Woking defence to clear. Seconds later, another Bush throw in caused havoc in the Cards’ penalty area and the ball somehow found Michael Cheek who nearly converted, but failed to properly connect with the ball.
Bromley’s pressure paid eventually off just shy of the half hour mark. A fantastic 30 yard free kick from Frankie Raymond found Kory Roberts at the back post, who rose and headed the ball across goal with aplomb to Craig Ross’ left hand side. All the momentum was then with the Ravens. Ben Williamson produced a fine cross that found Webster, but he could only head wide. However, as the half was coming to an end, Woking nearly equalised. Charlie Cooper’s corner was met by Moussa Diarra – the defenders header was awkward for Mark Cousins who tipped the effort on to the bar. A positive half for Bromley.
The second half commenced and Bromley started the more positive of the two teams. Williamson used his strength and flicked the ball to Wakefield who timed his run to perfection and only had Ross to beat. The midfielder failed to convert and forced a good save out of the Cards’ keeper.
Moments later, Jack Bridge picked up the ball and glided his way past Jack Cook and into Woking’s penalty area. The midfielder, from a tight angle, shot well only for Ross to once again come to the rescue for Woking. Then the moment that Bromley were waiting for. After a poor clearance from the Woking back line, the ball landed in the path of Wakefield who had acres of space. Wakefield’s shot from 25 yards deceived Ross and ended up in the back of the net. With more than 20 minutes remaining of the game, Bromley nearly had a third goal. Roberts’ header from a Bromley free kick was hacked off the line from Gerring.
After some moments of possession for Woking, the visitors got a goal back. Substitute Jayden Wareham got on to the end of a pass from Diarra and prodded past Cousins to score. The goal gave Woking momentum and minutes Later Slavi Spasov got on the end of a cross and headed straight at Cousins. Woking kept on attacking and nearly equalised. Goddard’s cross found Malachi Nepa who was certain to score for only Roberts to clear the midfielders header off the line – a heroic clearance from the defender.
As the game was coming to an end, the visitors equalised. Goddard cut inside and fired a powerful shot which Cousins could only palm away, and Wareham was able to pounce and score from close range.
