Report: Bromley 3-1 Torquay United

  • Men's

Bromley returned to winning ways on Tuesday night, at a cold, wet and windy H2T Group stadium, thanks to a well taken hat trick from Brett Williams.

After a fairly even opening 20 minutes, it was Bromley who took the lead, and it would be former Gulls striker Brett Williams to score it. After chasing through a long ball and outmuscling his man, he surged through on goal and powered a shot into the roof of the net, despite the best efforts of Vincent Dorel.

However, a momentary lapse in concentration saw Bromley let their lead slip just four minutes later, after a long ball into the box was not cleared, allowing Jamie Reid to hook the ball back across goal, where John-Paul Pitman was lurking to head home.

Dorel was tested after this, saving low efforts from Williams and Louis Dennis to keep the scores level until the break.

It took Bromley 13 second half minutes to re-take the lead, and it was again Williams who would provide the goods. After tireless work from Luke Wanadio to keep the ball in play, the winger produced a pinpoint cross for Williams to stoop and head home from the six yard box.

Adam Mekki came close to increasing Bromley’s lead, but after a Frankie Sutherland corner was only partially cleared to the edge of the box, his stinging volley was just over the crossbar. However, they needed to remain alert, as Reid and Ruari Keating went close to equalising for the Yellows.

Yet, Bromley did extend their lead in the 88th minute, as Williams caught the United defence napping, ran at goal, and finished low into the bottom corner from a slight angle.
