Report: Bromley 5-1 Ebbsfleet United

  • Men's

Bromley ended their season on a high with a 5-1 victory over Kent Rivals Ebbsfleet United, completing a league double over the Reds.

The Ravens were on the front foot from the start and almost went ahead on 15 minutes. Jordan Higgs breezed through on goal and thumped an effort past Jonathan Miles, only to see it crash off the post.

However, the Ravens weren’t to be denied on 21 minutes. A superb through ball from Luke Coulson was just about latched onto by George Porter, who took a touch before confidently slotting beyond the advancing Miles.

As the Fleet searched for an equaliser, Danny Kedwell went closest, as he flicked the ball over Jack Holland in the box before shooting just wide.

After the break, it was clear to see Bromley were the side who wanted the win more, and just five minutes in, would be awarded a penalty. After some neat build up play, Frankie Sutherland received a quick pass from JJ Hooper inside the box but was tripped, prompting referee Carl Brook to award a penalty. Sutherland dusted himself down and stepped up, making no mistake, dispatching the spot kick into the bottom corner despite Miles diving the right way.

And just four minutes later, it would be three. More fantastic work from Sutherland saw him play a ball into Hooper in the box, but his shot was blocked by his own man in Coulson as it seemed destined for the net. However, Richard Brindley was on hand to follow up and send a volleyed effort into the bottom corner.

And just six minutes after that there would be another goal, this time to the visitors. After a cross from substitute Michael Cheek wasn’t cleared by Bromley, Andy Drury struck a low effort from the edge of the box beyond David Gregory.

The scoring wasn’t done there either, as just two minutes later, Bromley would restore their three goal advantage and add a fourth, as another fantastic cross from Coulson found Hooper in the box, who converted from close range for his 19th goal in all competitions since joining in December.

Zavon Hines was included in the matchday squad and was introduced as a late substitute as a farewell for his playing days. The former West Ham man showed his quality once again though. On 90 minutes, his incisive through ball found the run of Coulson, who rounded Miles and slotted into the net from an angle.
