Report: Bromley 0-1 Solihull Moors

  • Men's

Brandon Hanlan almost put Bromley ahead inside the first minute, but after chasing down the hesitant Moors’ captain Liam Daly, the frontman saw his powerful shot deflected wide for a corner. Minutes later, Hanlan muscled his way through the visitors’ defence after being fed by Blair Turgott, but took a heavy touch and the ball rolled through to Moors’ stopper Nathan Baxter.

It was then, after 9 minutes, that Solihull took the lead with their first attack of any kind, and after being found in the box by George Carline, Harry White took a touch, turned and curled a shot into the bottom corner, beyond the reach of the debutant Ross Flitney.

Bromley, who were in complete control of the game up until that point, and Turgott nearly drew them level with a drive from just outside the area, but he saw his effort fly narrowly wide.

White should have put his side two goals to the good as half time approached, but after collecting a flick on, his first time shot was just wide. Turgott nearly made them pay a minute later, as he struck a dangerous free kick just wide of goal, following a heavy deflection. Hanlan could also have levelled things but after outpacing Joel Kettle and cutting in from the right, his low shot from almost a 90 degree angle was blocked by Baxter.

Early in the second half, Hanlan, at the centre of almost every Bromley attack, should have levelled things up, but after receiving a delightful floated cross from substitute Louis Dennis, he scuffed his first time shot just wide. Lee Minshull then headed wide from Turgott’s corner as the Ravens became increasingly frustrated with the state of play, having been camped in the Moors’ half since the second period began.

Just ten minutes after coming on, Danny Udon received a second booking for a frankly embarrassing dive in the penalty area, which reflected the fact that Moors’ had received more yellow cards than they had chances during the game.

After Bromley spent a huge proportion of the second 45 inside the Solihull half, they were made to rue the fact that they failed to turn their possession of the ball into enough clear chances.

Bromley XI: Flitney, Chorley, Dunne, Holland ©, Minshull (Wynter), Porter, Dymond (Dennis), Anderson, Higgs, Turgott (Goldberg), Hanlan.
