After a week spent travelling up and down the A1, Bromley had a welcomed home fixture to look forward to on Good Friday. The visitors to The H2T Group Stadium, promotion hopefuls Wrexham, came into the match on a 15 game unbeaten run and hadn’t shown any signs of a form dip since the departure of Manager Dean Keates to Walsall two weeks ago.

Bromley had the first chance of the match and went close through Brandon Hanlan. The Charlton loanee did well to break through the Wrexham defence and he powered a stinging strike straight down the throat of Chris Dunn, who saved well for the away side.

Wrexham were quick to reply as they broke on the counter following a poor Bromley throw-in. Rutherford got the better of Sterling on the right flank and crossed into the box. David Gregory saved well from the initial effort before Jack Holland came sliding in to clear the danger.

The lively start to the contest continued and Frankie Sutherland went close from 20-yards to register Bromley’s second shot on target. The ball was set back to the central midfielder just outside the box but he was unable to test Dunn in the Wrexham goal. And neither could Porter just moments later. Adam Mekki switched the play out to the right finding Jordan Higgs. Higgs then crossed into the box for an on-rushing George Porter who could only put his effort wide from 10-yards out.

The tides turned midway into the second half with the away side really getting on the front foot. The Ravens had David Gregory to thank just before the half hour mark as he made a superb double save from point-blank range to deny Holroyd and stop Wrexham taking the lead.

The game would be changed on the stroke of half-time when Roger Johnson was deemed to have made a challenge on Wedgebury worthy of a red card. The tackle was strong, but whether it warranted a red is a debate that will go on. However, the scoreline remained level at the break but the home side would have to contest the second period a man lighter.

Bromley set-up for the second half in positive fashion but they couldn’t stop Wrexham taking lead on 52 minutes. The Ravens gave away a free-kick on the right hand side and Paul Rutherford floated in a superb cross finding Jennings unmarked at the back post to head in for the opener.

But it wouldn’t be all plain sailing for the away side as Bromley would find a way back into the game. Bugiel was brought on by Neil Smith to replace Porter and he had an immediate impact. His searching run into the box drew a foul from the Wrexham defence. A foul that both referee and his linesman deemed to be worthy of a penalty. Hanlan stepped up to take the spot-kick and he confidently dispatched the effort past Dunn in the Wrexham goal. Game on.

Wrexham would be unlucky in their endeavours after the match was levelled. Substitute Jonathan Franks was found in space on the right and his effort deflected off Sterling and then onto the post.

Bromley continued to make a game of it however, and Bugiel proved to be a menace to the Wrexham defence. The on-loan Forest Green forward used his energy to get past Pearson and get a shot away on the angle, but he could only watch it slide wide of Dunn’s goal.

Wrexham would continue to press until the final whistle however they were unable to get the winning goal they were so desperate for. Regardless, their unbeaten run stretches to 16 matches and Neil Smith’s men earned a deserved point at a rainy Hayes Lane. Up next for Bromley is a trip to Sutton which is to be shown live on BT Sport.
