Report: Dagenham & Redbridge 1-0 Bromley

  • Men's

Bromley made the trip to Victoria Road on Tuesday evening, looking to re-start another away run, having lost their unbeaten record on the road to Weymouth just over a week previously.

The first 25 minutes were a cagey affair, with the hosts creating most of the attacks. Whilst Myles Weston was lively and delivered a number of crosses, Bromley were not really threatened until the opening goal.

It was that man Weston who would be the provider, as his deflected cross met the head of Liam Gordon at the back post, who powered beyond Mark Cousins.

Bromley looked to respond and were provided an opportunity to do just that on 31 minutes, after Callum Reynolds’ poor challenge on Courtney Duffus led to a free kick on the edge of the box. Chris Bush stepped up to take it, but his low effort was deflected wide by the wall.

From that corner would come Bromley’s best chance of the half. Liam Trotter held off challenges to work his way towards Jack Bridge’s delivery and got his head on it, directing the ball goalwards, only for a slight deflection to take it wide.

Bromley were to have two further free kicks out on the left hand side of the box, following fouls on Duffus and Michael Cheek respectively. Both were taken by Bridge, but the first was blocked and the latter curled wide.

As half time approached, Harry Forster embarked on a mazy run down the left side and into the box, but lost his footing, and went to ground, appearing to be in some discomfort. Forster received treatment but was unable to continue, forcing Neil Smith into an early change as Ben Williamson came on to replace him.

The second half saw Bromley have a penalty appeal turned down within four minutes. Courtney Duffus surged into the box and went down after being sandwiched between two defenders, but the referee deemed there to have been no foul.

Charlee Adams had a chance to double his side’s lead on 51 minutes, but his low shot from 20 yards was easily saved by Cousins. Bromley failed to create enough and registered their first real opportunity of the evening on 62 minutes. Courtney Duffus brushed off the challenge of Callum Reynolds and narrowed his angle on goal, but his low shot was well saved by Elliott Justham.

They would then have another half chance, as Cheek flicked Raymond’s free kick goalwards with a stooping header, but Justham was able to make a simple save.

Bromley had plenty of possession in the second 45, but failed to test Justham again following Duffus’ effort. As time went on, substitute Darren McQueen almost made an immediate impact for the Daggers, but saw his fierce strike well saved by Cousins.

Bromley continued to dominate the possession as injury time approached, but were unable to create any further openings, and the hosts held on for the points.

Bromley X: Cousins, Kizzi (Coulson), Bush, Holland, Raymond (Bingham), Cheek, Duffus, Trotter, Webster (C), Forster (Williamson), Bridge
