Report: Guiseley 1-4 Bromley

  • Men's

After a scrappy first 45 minutes, scintillating second half saw Bromley ease to a 4-1 victory at Guiseley.

In the first half, the Ravens went close through Dan Johnson, after the young centre back, making his first start for Bromley, headed against the base of the post from Joe Anderson’s corner.

Jordan Preston was at the heart of the attack for the home side, and missed a good opportunity to put his side in to the lead when he volleyed over from the centre of the penalty area.

Two more scrambles in the Lions’ box frustrated Bromley, as dogged defending from Guiseley ensured the scores remained level at half time.

Six minutes into the second half, Bromley took the lead. Blair Turgott embarked on a long solo run, beat his man and powered a shot into the top corner. A matter of minutes later, the visitors were awarded a spot kick. George Porter’s persistence was the key, as he chased down a long ball, and was tripped by Lions’ goalkeeper Dan Atkinson. Louis Dennis stepped up and calmly dispatched an effort just out of Atkinson’s reach.

Following that, Alfie Pavey could have made it three in the space of just over five minutes, as he capitalised on a defensive error, but saw his powerful, low drive hit the post.

However, it wasn’t long before Bromley’s lead was extended. Max Porter struck a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal from the edge of the box for his first Bromley goal. Guiseley did pull one back after 87 minutes, when substitute Adam Smith scored with a heavily deflected volley from the edge of the box.

However, the three goal cushion was restored in additional time, as Bromley substitute Bradley Goldberg cut in from a run down the left wing, before curling a shot into the top corner, despite Atkinson getting a touch to it.

Bromley XI: Julian, Johnson, Swaine, Holland (C), G.Porter, (Goldberg) Dennis, Dymond, Anderson, Turgott, M.Porter (Prestedge), Pavey (Minshull) Unused subs: Howe, Higgs
