Report: Harrogate Town 1-1 Bromley

  • Men's

A late own goal saw Bromley earn a deserved point at the CNG Stadium on Saturday in front of the BT Sport Cameras.

The Ravens started the game well, when their first chance arrived in the 8th minute. Corey Whitely and Billy Bingham worked well together and the latter delivered a ball to the path of Michael Cheek but he got dispossessed before he pulled the trigger following strong defensive work from the Town back line. Moments later, Bromley had another chance to take the lead. A great turn from Coulson meant he surged into space and found Adam Mekki on the right. Mekki had beaten the defender but blazed his shot over the bar.

Harrogate threatened the Ravens during a counter-attack, in which Jon Stead executed a shot, however Ryan Huddart saved it comfortably. Huddart was again called into action a minute later, when he denied a powerful attempt from Jack Diamond at the near post.

Luke Coulson came very close just before half time, when he caught James Belshaw off his line, but his quickly taken, dipping shot had fallen just wide. Moments later, Town came closest of the first half when Josh Falkingham rattled the crossbar from a shot outside the box.

The Gaters’ first chance of the second half resulted in a goal from Diamond, who had the simple task of prodding home a cross from the right. Bromley nearly equalised 4 minutes later when a shot from Coulson swerved in the air, which Belshaw parried unconvincingly. 10 minutes later, Coulson came close again from a free-kick on the edge of the box. However, it didn’t prove too much of a challenge for Belshaw as he made a comfortable save.

Not long after, Joe Kizzi made a well-timed run and met Bush’s floated free kick in the box, but his header lacked power and was easily saved by Belshaw. Bromley did get the equaliser they deserved four minutes from time, when a corner taken by Coulson was put into the net by Harrogate substitute Alex Bradley at the back post.

The Ravens were looking the more likely to win it in injury time, but in the end, the two sides settled for a draw, having also ended the previous fixture with a point apiece.
