Report: Sutton United 2-0 Bromley

  • Men's

Bromley Manager Neil Smith named an unchanged side for the trip to Sutton United on New Years Day.

It was the home side who had the first chance of the game but Julian was on hand to superbly save a close range effort from Gomis.

A forced substitution for Sutton United saw the introduction of Hudson-Odoi for Jefford and the substitute had two great chances midway through the half. The first from the edge of the box but he sliced his left foot effort well wide of the mark before his second chance came again on the edge of the box following a good move from the home side but this time his right foot effort sailed across goal and wide of the far post.

Bromley’s first real chance of the game came in the final minutes of the half, Martin running onto a flicked on ball and into the box but with only the keeper to beat the winger appeared to fall over as his adjusted his feet and the ball was cleared for a corner. The resulting corner produced a great save from Worner and the rebound from Martin hit a Sutton defender and fell into the hands of the keeper.

The home side took the lead on the stroke of half time as a perfectly placed free kick was swung into the Bromley box and headed home by Biamou.

Sutton United came out the brightest at the start of the second half and it didn’t take long for them to extend their lead. Bromley failed to clear the danger from a corner and from the resulting scramble Hudson-Odoi fired the ball into the back of net through a crowd of bodies to make it 2-0.

Bromley continued to be limited to half chances by the home side, Cunnington coming closest with a looping header that dropped over the bar.

A disappointing start to 2017 for the Ravens who will look to respond at home to Forest Green Rovers next Saturday.

Bromley XI: Julian, Johnson, Swaine, Holland (C), Martin, Porter, Cunnington, Dymond, Anderson, Higgs, Turgott.

Bromey Subs: Dennis, Goldberg, Wynter, Chorley, Prestedge
