Report: Wealdstone 1-1 Bromley

  • Men's

Bromley drew 1-1 to fellow London side Wealdstone in a tightly contested game.

The game started positively for Bromley, with Michael Cheek shooting to the keeper’s right side. Wealdstone then attacked and Charles Cleyden’s dangerous cross just missed Ira Jackson.

The ball then found its way to Cheek in the opposition’s box, with Jereme Okimo producing a last-ditch challenge on the striker.

Stephan Browne then shot to Ellery Balcombe’s middle after showing good strength and composure against the Bromley defence.

With under 20 minutes played, Harry Forster unfortunately came off with an injury, Luke Coulson replaced the wing-back.

Bromley came the closest in taking the lead through Corey Whiteley, who hit the bar from a speculative effort from 20 yards.

Bromley kept applying the pressure, with Webster’s header cleared off the line from a Billy Bingham corner.

In the latter stages of the first half, George Wickens made two important saves. James Alabi showed great composure and strength in the opposition’s box and made Wickens save well. Moments later, Joe Partington played an incredible through ball to Cheek from his own half, Cheek controlled the ball but Wickens once again saved from close range.

In the second half, Coulson’s corner was headed over the bar by Byron Webster.

Nathan Ferguson then tested Balcombe by forcing the keeper to get down low and save his effort. Wealdstone built on that chance, with Henry once again causing issues for the Bromley backline hitting the bar from a tight angle.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, a Chris Bush signature throw in found Webster who expertly headed the ball into the bottom corner to give Bromley the lead. A much needed goal for Bromley as Webster netted his second goal of the season against Wealdstone.

As the game was coming to an end, Balcombe nearly produced the spectacular by nearly scoring from a goal kick. The goal-kick forced a brilliant save from Wickens.

With just minutes remaining, Balcombe made the save of the game. Stephan Browne skilled his way past a couple of defenders in Bromley’s penalty area and Balcombe pushed Browne’s shot against the post from close range. Spectacular from the Brentford loanee.

Coulson was then forced off with an injury and the Ravens had to play the final stages with 10 men. The man advantage paid off fo the Stones who equalised on 90 minutes. A ball was delivered into the box and Joshua Umerah scored with ease.

In the seven minutes of injury time, despite Bromley having 10 men, Balcombe again made an amazing close range save to deny Wealdstone victory.
