October was all about character for a Bromley side who had just lost for the first time competitively since April. Just how would the Ravens respond?

There would be a tough test to begin the month, as Ian Evatt’s in form Barrow side would make the trip to Hayes Lane on a day where the ever present Chris Bush and Joe Kizzi were both suspended, adding to the loss of Mark Cousins. That day saw Bromley lose at home for the first time since Easter, as a late Michael Cheek goal just wasn’t enough to salvage a point, with the Ravens losing out 2-1.

Next up was a tough pair of away games for Bromley, starting with a Tuesday night trip to North London to take on Barnet. Despite going a goal down, the Ravens would respond magnificently, with goals from the returning Bush and Kizzi sealing a 2-1 victory, also thanks to some excellent saves from new shot stopper Ryan Huddart.

Then came a trip to Damson Park to face Solihull Moors, a ground which saw Bromley’s heaviest defeat in recent years inflicted the year before; a 5-0 hammering where the hosts were 4-0 up at half time. This time, events unfolded quite differently, as the Ravens were very much on top, but eventually succumbed to some Moors pressure and found themselves 2-0 down. A late, late Alfie Doughty strike gave the Ravens some hope, but ultimately, it was too little, far too late.

It was back to home comforts for Bromley the following week and a welcome distraction from the League in the form of the FA Cup, yet, the draw paired the Ravens with National League rivals Aldershot Town. A goalfest ensued, with a brace from Michael Cheek and further strikes from Kizzi and Jack Holland handed the hosts a narrow 4-3 victory.

Off the pitch, the Ravens Bar would be full of anticipation for the resulting FA Cup draw on the Monday night after that game. Although it would not be the home game Bromley supporters had hoped for, the draw paired Bromley with Bristol Rovers, who were flying high in League One.

It was back to National League action next, and then 1st placed FC Halifax Town were the team to visit Hayes Lane, taking on a Bromley side in 2nd. After a dull first half, Bromley blew the league leaders away in the second, scoring five times with no response to send them back to the summit. Goals came from Adam Mekki, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, Josh Rees, Kizzi and Bush, the latter pair of whom were enjoying an impressive goalscoring October. The month would end with the visit of newly promoted Stockport County. After going ahead through Hackett-Fairchild, Bromley hoped for a repeat of Saturday’s performance, but it wasn’t to be, as Stockport responded twice to take the lead, before an own goal not long before half time had Bromley back on level terms. 2-2 was the score at the break, and it remained that way, with both sides sharing the points.
