Mark Hammond wins CEO of the Year Award 2023

Bromley Football Club are delighted to announce that CEO Mark Hammond has won Sports Hospitality CEO of the Year at the 2023 CEO of the Year Awards.

Originally joining the club back in 2013, after achieving a bachelors first class honours degree in sports and physical education, Mark was appointed as First Team Coach and played a vital role in helping the club rise to the National League, reaching the play-offs in 2013-14 before achieving promotion at the end of 2014-15.

The following season saw Mark add another string to his bow as he kick-started the Bromley FC Academy and was quickly appointed Academy Director. On the side-lines, he was also promoted to Assistant Manager. Mark has over 380 games in the dug-out and helped guide the Ravens to Wembley in 2018.

On the Academy front, Mark has taken the Post 16-19 boys Academy from 40 players to over 300, built a boy’s youth development academy from U12’s to U16’s and launched the girls and women’s strategy which sees over 60 girls represent Bromley FC too. Not only that, Mark established a men’s U21’s development pathway programme which has included the likes of Cardiff’s Ollie Tanner, Millwall’s Frankie Hvid and most recently, Norwich City’s Kellen Fisher and new Brentford signing Ben Krauhaus, also helping to create a bridge towards the Bromley First Team.

Through the growth of the Academy, Mark has established positive and successful educational partnerships with The Ravensbourne School and London South-East Colleges. All Players at post 16 level can study several qualifications such as BTEC, A-Levels and foundation degrees, whilst being full-time at the club where they can become “professionals in football” not just professional footballers.

The Academy have now proudly produced an alumnus of players who have moved onto a number of national universities, careers in the world of sports science, gained full-time US scholarships and most notably are now employed through the club’s apprenticeship scheme.

Mark was asked who was the most inspirational person on his career, he said: “Chairman & Owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves has been monumental on my own personal and professional career and has helped me understand the step to take to be successful in business.”

In July 2022, Mark became CEO of Bromley Football Club. Today, at the helm of the organisation, his mission is to inspire all staff, stakeholders, players, and supporters by building and delivering effective strategies, initiatives, and creating opportunities for everyone to participate in football. He also endeavours to positively impact the club’s operations and strategy whilst developing successful leadership teams and departments.

The CEO of the Year awards

The CEO of the Year Awards are designed and coordinated by an in-house research team at CEO Monthly. They spend a number of months looking over publicly available sources (company websites & directories, industry journals, press releases etc.) in order to identify key companies and professionals who are not only relevant to our circulation in terms of the industry that they fall into and where they’re based, but who the team feel have gone above and beyond in their field and deserve to be recognised for their achievements based entirely on merit rather than popularity or company size as we find with other awards programmes.

Read below a piece on Mark in CEO Monthly:

The article in CEO Monthly highlights Mark’s influence on the club’s hospitality served in 2023, mentioning how he has enhanced the matchday experience by introducing new and innovative concepts in an executive way. He has also implemented sustainable practices and reduced the environmental impact while maintaining high-quality standards.

Judge’s Comments

“Mark Hammond’s journey with the club is a testament to his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions. He embarked on this adventure back in 2013 when he took on the role of First Team coach and it is clear that he played a pivotal role in propelling the club to its very first season in the National League.

“Not only this, but during his time at the club, he has strategically organised and executed the academy & education performance plans and policies, paved the way for staff development strategies, designed the football and education infrastructure, and contributed to the ongoing transformation of the club’s business operations which in-turn has significantly enhancing the club’s financial strength.

“Mark Hammond’s latest accolade as a ‘College Fellow 2023’ at London South East Colleges is a well-deserved honour that speaks volumes about his exceptional dedication and contributions to education, as well as the Bromley Football Club Academy partnerships.

“Mark’s community-focused spirit and commitment to progression is deemed highly commendable by the team here at CEO Monthly, and his experience and understanding of the ever-evolving demands of running a football club will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to watch in 2024 and beyond.

“It is with the above in mind that we feel he is most deserving of the title “Sports Hospitality CEO of the Year 2023 – London”.

Congratulations, Mark!
