Michael Cheek hits 100 Bromley goals

Last week’s strike against Wealdstone proved to be Michael Cheek’s 100th Bromley goal in all competitive fixtures since joining from near-neighbours, Ebbsfleet United in the Summer of 2019.

Our front-man has been leading scorer in each of his four-and-a-half seasons at Hayes Lane, and in the 2020-21 season was the Leagues leading scorer with 21 League goals to his credit, which won him the National League Golden Boot award.

He has been a proven scorer at every club he has represented, finding the net on 35 occasions in 66 appearances for Chelmsford City, before hitting the target 42 times in 98 appearances for Braintree Town.

Joining Dagenham & Redbridge for one season, he hit double figures again; and thereafter at his last Club, Ebbsfleet United, he scored 16 goals in the one season he had at Stonebridge Road.

Cheek was also the marksman in the 1-0 success at Wembley Stadium against Wrexham that brought the FA Trophy back to Hayes Lane for the very first time.

Our number nine opened his account on 6th August 2019 when he found the net on his home debut against the Club he had just left in Bromley’s 3-1 victory.

In the calendar year of 2023, Cheek was the player who scored the most goals in the National League’s top division, when he hit the target on 25 occasions – one more than Nicke Kabamba of Barnet, and two more than Eastleigh’s Paul McCallum.

In addition to his 100 competitive goals, he has found the net on 13 occasions in pre-season friendlies, and scored two goals in the league fixture against Dover Athletic on 6 October 2020, which was later deleted from the records due to Dover not completing the season for financial reasons caused by the Covid regulations.
